Clearways
Clearway (24-Hour)
In plain English
No stopping on the main carriageway at any time — you may only stop in a lay-by.
What it means
A clearway (round blue and red sign with red diagonal cross) means you must not stop on the main carriageway at any time, except in an emergency. The prohibition applies to the carriageway, slip roads, and acceleration/deceleration areas. You may stop in lay-bys unless separate signs prohibit it. Unlike a no-waiting restriction, even stopping briefly is prohibited.
